Playdate, the UK’s first dating app aimed specifically at single parents, has appointed John Kneeland as an advisor to the board.
John has an extremely strong track record in the dating app space. He was the first Product Manager at leading dating app Bumble where he helped create one of the world’s most successful dating apps today. He then moved on to Facebook following Bumble’s IPO where he led product teams in Facebook Dating, Community, and Meet New Friends. Today, John uses his expertise to advise other businesses on their product strategies and is also involved with an exciting public safety start-up based out of New York.
On John’s appointment, Nevine Coutry, founder of Playdate said:
“I am thrilled to welcome John to our Advisory Board. Given his vast experience with Bumble and Facebook Dating, I have no doubt that he will be pivotal in strengthening our product and in guiding us as we scale globally. His enthusiasm and shared vision for Playdate is only testament to the immense potential of what Playdate can become.”
Playdate is the UK’s first dating app catering solely to single parents. The app was founded by marketing entrepreneur, Nevine, who knows how tough dating as a single parent can be. Frustrated at the lack of opportunities to meet like-minded people, she decided to launch her own app. Her vision with Playdate is to allow single parents to find meaningful relationships, which work alongside their lifestyle and commitments.
John Kneeland is a leading Product Manager in the space of bringing people together through technology. As the first PM hire for the early years of Bumble, John played a key role in guiding Bumble’s ascent to one of the world’s largest and top-grossing dating apps. John lives just outside New York City with his wife (whom he met on a dating app) and their two-year-old daughter. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2008.
On joining Playdate’s Advisory Board, John said:
“From playing my own small part in the success of other dating apps, I have seen first-hand that when you build a world-class dating experience that elevates an under-served group of people, you will not just build a tremendously successful business; you’ll also build something that has a profound, life-changing impact for millions of people. I think Playdate can build the best dedicated dating experience for parents in the world, and I’m excited to work with Nevine and the rest of the Playdate team to make it happen.”
John will support the team mainly on product development and iterations for scaling to different markets. He will also be heavily involved in Playdate’s engagement, pricing and conversion strategies.
Playdate has seen stellar growth over the past year, with over 50,000 app installs and a healthy 60/40 male to female split, Playdate is now focusing on optimising its UI/UX for its existing users and is looking to scale to other markets in the next few years, strengthening and growing its team in the process.
