A pleasant working environment is crucial, which is part of the reason J Sweeney Accountants has swapped one rural address for another – moving to offices overlooking Pitsford Reservoir as part of its expansion plans.
Keen to replicate the idyllic surroundings of its former home in Preston Deanery, the firm chose a property in Grange Lane, Pitsford, when looking for additional space for its growing business.
The practice, which also has offices in Bedford Square in London, tailors its accountancy services to suit clients’ needs. The focus is on a full range of services for SMEs, including year-end accounts, tax planning, company formation and business plans. At the same time, the firm offers outsourced financial directorships for those who don’t have an in-house finance department.
All that means building close working relationships and the office move has been as much about a providing an improved environment for visitors as it has about accommodating the expanding J Sweeney Accountants team.
Director James Sweeney said:
“We were outgrowing our previous offices but we didn’t want to lose the rural setting. We have never wanted to be on an industrial estate or in a town centre, so this opportunity was perfect for us.
“It was getting a little bit cramped before, so having a more spacious office with a good-sized meeting room and break-out areas is very welcome. We think it’s much better experience for clients that are coming in to see us, as well as for the people coming to work here every day. They have lovely views over the reservoir and can get out for a walk and some fresh air at lunchtime if they want to. All in all, it’s very exciting to be making a new start in a new home.”
As trusted business advisors, J Sweeney Accountants’ team boasts a combined 50 years’ experience in running accounts departments, completing practice accounts filings, tax planning and general accounting.
The team works with a wide range of clients from both its Northamptonshire and London bases, helping them to build their businesses. A fixed-fee arrangement means that clients don’t have to consider how much the bill is going to be when they contact their advisor for advice. And the outsourcing model has proven attractive to clients who are not in a position to invest in a dedicated finance department but need all the financial support such a department would offer.
Outsourcing financial matters to J Sweeney Accountants means a business can benefit from a working relationship that not only offers all the financial support needed, but one that will focus on the growth strategy and development that normally falls onto a finance director.
James added:
“The service is designed to help clients keep costs to a minimum and take the pain and effort away from the owner in areas that are vital to the business. When an SME reaches a certain size, it reaches a point where, in an ideal situation, it would have a dedicated financial department. The costs and restructuring involved in that, however, are restrictive and so it makes more sense to outsource.
“That not only leaves the business owner free to concentrate on what they do best, it also means that they get the experience and expertise of a whole team, ensuring an all-round service and the input of professionals across a whole range of specialisms where needed
“If we do our job well, the client will continue to grow and develop their business and may well reach a point where it does make sense to have their own accounts department, at which point we will help them get that up and running, handing over everything when both sides are confident they are ready to work
independently.
“And, of course, if the client prefers, they can remain with us for the long-term and we’ll continue to work with them as they grow.”
