MR Industrial Services

A winning approach to safety

Winvic, one of MR Industrial Services largest and most valued clients, has awarded the company its ‘Doing It Right’ Safety Excellence Award for Q4 2021. This follows on from MR Industrial Services reaching the Number One position in the Health and Safety Contractor league table for another large tier one contractor, Bowmer and Kirkland, for work at Peterborough University project.

David Bell, SHEQ Director said:

“Winvic turnover approximately £1bn a year and have some huge supply chain partners working across their portfolio, so to win the safety excellence award is fantastic kudos for us and a great boost for the whole team.

“We invest a significant amount in health and safety, and we do it not because we have to, we’re not ticking boxes, we do it because safety is the most important part of any workplace or site. It’s important for us to demonstrate our core values, of which health & safety is one.

“Getting an award like this, plus heading up the Bowmer & Kirkland league table, shows our full commitment to all health and safety standards.”

Such is the dedication of MR Industrial Services to health and safety best practice, many training courses available to its own staff are often delivered free of charge to clients and their supply chain. The introduction of a certified Integrated Management System, which consists of ISO 9001, 14001 & 45001 requirements, and their Passport to Work (PTW) Scheme have also played a significant role.

Under the PTW scheme, all MR employees and supply chain partners must have met the minimum requirements in four key areas – Working at Height, Lifting Operation and Lifting Equipment (LOLER), Abrasive Wheel and Manual Handling. The PTW comes in the form of a plastic card with a QR code.  All will carry this card that can be scanned on any handheld device that has a camera and internet access. From this card, anyone can challenge any member of the MR Industrial Services team or supply chain and get access to documentation and training certificates that can instantly verify that person’s competencies to be operating all plant or equipment.

David Bell added:

“It doesn’t matter whether you’ve been on a building site for one week or 30 years, an individual would not be allowed on one of our sites if they don’t meet those basic requirements and have evidence to prove it. The unique selling point for us is that we will only put safe people on any of our projects. Wherever we can, we try to help all others in the supply chain including the client because we should all be working towards the same goal.”

“This is a better achievement for MR Industrial Services than winning any new project. This shows our plans, commitment, dedication and investment into our Health and Safety department is paying off.
