Battersea Power Station

Powerful addition to the city’s food scene

Arcade Battersea, which opened in July inside the restored Grade II* listed Battersea Power Station is gearing up to provide great food in a unique setting across the festive period.

All food brands in Arcade Battersea have been developed via Arcade Create, a programme that helps new and exciting food talent launch a brand. Four new concepts feature on the menu, all exclusive to Arcade Battersea, including Flat Bread by Thomas Straker; Siu Siu Cantonese comfort food inspired by roast meat shops in Hong Kong; and Phed Power, serving fiery food from Issan, Thailand.

Existing brands such as Hero Indian fast food, Sushi Kamon Japanese sushi, Tipan Tapan Nepali street food and Shatta & Toum Middle Eastern shawarma kitchen will form part of the line-up of global cuisines on the menu.

The new food hall will also have two bars; Tap Room and ABC Bar. Tap Room will showcase a wall of 32 taps, serving cocktails using locally sourced ingredients and a host of beers from international and South London breweries. ABC Bar, inspired by classic cocktail culture, will offer a concise menu of the world’s most famous cocktails.

With seating for 500, the space will continue Arcade’s direct-to-table ordering system, eliminating the need to queue at stands and limit the need to book ahead, with only groups of more than 12 requiring a reservation.

Cokey Sulkin, COO of Arcade, said:

“Arcade Battersea is an exciting addition to the South West London food scene. Not only is it a unique dining experience that allows for people of all ages to try different cuisines but it’s also an exciting offering to showcase new and emerging food brands that we have developed via the Arcade Create programme. We hope to have created a venue that people want to visit time and time again.”

The interior design, by award-winning architects Red Deer, takes inspiration from the two eras in which the Power Station was built, merging the glamour of the roaring 1920s with Brutalist 1950s mid-century style, while maintaining sustainability remains at the forefront. Elegant details and reclaimed items from the original Power Station, such as the light fittings, recalling the isolators used in the original Power Station control room, and the reused oak timber flooring, have been incorporated into the design, adding to the unique aesthetic while remaining respectful to the heritage of the building.

Arcade Battersea is the second food hall by Arcade, and follows the successful opening of Arcade Centre Point on Tottenham Court Road. In addition to the food hall, Arcade Battersea will house three restaurants.

Among the choices for visitors to the iconic building are:

Manna

Manna is a US-style smash burger and fried chicken joint, the brand’s first restaurant, following its successful launch at Arcade Centre Point. Manna will serve a host of new dishes exclusive to Battersea Power Station, all of which nod to British nostalgia.

Battersea Power Station

This includes the Hot Bonnet Fish Filay – fried fish tail topped with scotch bonnet sauce, pikliz and lettuce sat in a Manna brioche bun, the Chicken Block Burger – fried crispy chicken topped with red pepper ketchup, a hash brown, cheese, Caesar aioli and lettuce and the Manna Apple Pie – slow cooked apple chunks inside a pastry casing and dusted with cinnamon sugar.

Feroz Gajia, founder of Manna said:

“The core of Manna is simplicity. Simple, delicious burgers and fried chicken. The dishes feel like something you have had before, they are comforting, never disappointing. We have spent time going through each ingredient in every dish, testing every possible combination to achieve deliciousness.”

Flat Bread

Battersea Power Station

Thomas Straker, who has spent the last decade at some of London’s top restaurants, has launched Flat Bread, his first new concept since opening Strakers in Notting Hill in November 2022.

He has put all of his attention on his beloved flatbreads, creating seven dishes for Arcade Battersea, all smothered in his much-loved butters.

Flat Bread’s signature dishes include Chilli Mussel Butter Flatbread, Nduja with Smoked Burrata and Honey Flatbread, and Confit Duck Leg with Pickled Onion Flatbread.

Phed Power

Battersea Power StationPhed Power offers the street staples of Bangkok and Issan – the food that Thai people eat every day. PadGrapao is the unofficial national dish of Thailand: chicken stir-fried with fragrant holy basil, served with rice and a fried egg to spoon into. As well as grapao, the menu includes Som Tam (papaya salad with a punchy dressing) and Tam Lao, every Bangkok taxi driver’s favourite, full of fermented fish sauce, rice noodles, chillies and lime.

Siu Siu

Siu Siu serves Cantonese comfort food, inspired by roast meat shops in Hong Kong. Sorrowful rice, a very popular dish in Chinese culture, made famous by the 1996 film God of Cookery will be the star dish. It includes oven-roasted char siu Iberico pork, finished on the grill served on steamed rice slicked with sweet soy, pickled mustard greens and a fried egg. Battersea Power Station

Leccami Gelato

Leccami has an authentic range of Italian gelato ice cream and sorbets on offer from a stand-alone cart within the food hall. Signature flavours are stracciatella, tiramisu and dark chocolate.

The Tap Room

The Tap Room boasts an impressive 32 tap beverages: classic cocktails, soft drinks and beers. The beer list is a balance of recognisable international breweries, the best of UK craft beer and a changing list of local beers sourced within five miles of Battersea Power Station. Alongside the tap drinks, Tap Room will offer Boilermakers, smaller versions of popular cocktails such as the Tiny Tini – a miniature shot served in a martini glass.

The ABC Bar

The ABC Bar takes its name from the American Bar Cocktail book, and its recipes have been recreated from the book, staying true to its ethos and championing the craft and rituals of producing cocktails. The menu will feature some of the world’s most famous cocktails that can be enjoyed from brunch to evening alongside an extensive list of rare and top-shelf spirits.

Cokey Sulkin added:

“I’m thrilled to be leading the teams at Arcade Centre Point and Arcade Battersea. We aim to create a drinking and dining destination to attract Londoners and international guests alike via global cuisines and seamless technology in the historic Power Station.”
